Baoning Temple is the original places of Cao Cave, the south school of Buddhism. Since South Song Dynasty, Lingji and Cao Cave schools have been very popular, and they spread to Japan. In 1983, the Japanese adherents of Cao Cave school came to China, bringing the name list of the founders, head by Kuang Changzi to Baoning Temple. At that time, as Baoning Temple was surrounded by high woods and thorns, and the local people didn’t know that Japanese believed the dignitaries from Baoning Temple, the Japanese visiting delegation had to retune in vain. Kuang Changzi, Faci Shishi, Fa Sunyong Monks were all dignitaries and their words and traces were all recorded in Buddhism books.
The existing Dianyu Temple, part of the ancient Baoning Temple, was the repaired mode in the second year of Emperor Guangxu. It is made of three lines, including 24 temples, halls, Houses, cabinets and dais. There are Three Wonders and Three Astonishments in Baoning Temple, which gain a very good reputation among China’s Buddhism. The Three Wonders are Putong Tower, Founder Pagoda, and Baoning Temple Record and Baoning Temple Appraise written by Wang Fuzi. The Three Astonishments are one-thousand-year camphor growing in water, all-year green Kwan-yin dasheen, and millenary ancient well that never dries up.
