Baoning Temple was built up in 751 A.D., that was Tang Dynasty and it was one of the first Buddhism temples in Hunan province [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. And the founder was Kuang Changzi, who was born in You county and called guru of wisdom

Baoning Temple is the original places of Cao Cave, the south school of Buddhism. Since South Song Dynasty, Lingji and Cao Cave schools have been very popular, and they spread to Japan. In 1983, the Japanese adherents of Cao Cave school came to China, bringing the name list of the founders, head by Kuang Changzi to Baoning Temple. At that time, as Baoning Temple was surrounded by high woods and thorns, and the local people didn’t know that Japanese believed the dignitaries from Baoning Temple, the Japanese visiting delegation had to retune in vain. From Tang Dynasty to Yuan Dynasty, there were many believers coming to Baoning Temple to pray, which made it center where dignitaries from Nanyue Temple [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and Jiangxi Buddhism communicated with each other. Kuang Changzi, Faci Shishi, Fa Sunyong Monks were all dignitaries and their words and traces were all recorded in Buddhism books.

The existing Dianyu Temple, part of the ancient Baoning Temple, was the repaired mode in the second year of Emperor Guangxu. It is made of three lines, including 24 temples, halls, Houses, cabinets and dais. There are Three Wonders and Three Astonishments in Baoning Temple, which gain a very good reputation among China’s Buddhism. The Three Wonders are Putong Tower, Founder Pagoda, and Baoning Temple Record and Baoning Temple Appraise written by Wang Fuzi. The Three Astonishments are one-thousand-year camphor growing in water, all-year green Kwan-yin dasheen, and millenary ancient well that never dries up.
