Covering an area of 180sqkm, this area is characterized by temples, pagodas and cypress trees. It enjoys the reputation of “possessing all the elegance and grotesque of the five famous mountains in China”.
The Cnangyan Mountain is covered with green vegetation. Old cypress trees reach high up to the sky, blotting out the sunlight. There are sixteen beautiful sceneries in Cangyan Mountain.
There are many temples, pagodas, and other buildings standing upright on the cliffs, ranges and summits. Fuqing Temple (Fuqing Si [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]) is one of the famous temples here. It is said that Fuqing Temple is the place where Princess Nanyang, daughter of Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty (581-618) practiced Buddhism. The Fuqing Temple, magnificent and grand in its structure, is composed of Qiaolou Hall (Qiaolou Dian), Ancestral Hall of Princess Nanyang (Nanyang Gongzhu Si), Cangshan Academy (Cangshan Shuyuan), Wanxian Hall (Wanxian Tang), Fenghui Hall (Fenghui Xuan), Make-Up Tower (Shuzhuang Lou) and Yuhuang Summit (Yuhuang Ding [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]).
Worth of mentioned, the Qiaolou Hall (Qiaolou Dian), the main structure of the Fuqing Temple (Fuqing Si), is situated on a stone arch bridge which spans the cliffs. It is more than 70m above the ground and looks much astonishing. Qiaolou Hall (Qiaolou Dian) is one of the three hanging temples in China and also one of the outstanding masterpieces of China’s ancient architectures.
