Travel Guide - The Ancient Han Palace

Built in the time of Chu Han Contention, the Ancient Han Palace [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] in the city centre of Hanzhong, Shaanxi Province covers an area of about 8,000 m2. The platform of the palace has three levels, totaling a height of seven meters.  Emperor Liu Bang fortuitously stationed his military forces in Hanzhong and ended up winning his battle, so he called his reigning dynasty “Han”. The place where he stayed was called by later generations the Ancient Han Palace. Since the Han dynasty, the Han Palace has become a place of memorial ceremonies and entertainment. Over time, it has been renovated regularly. The Ancient Han Palace is now where the Hanzhong City Museum stands. Inside, palace visitors can revel at the beauty of verdant old trees, towering bamboo, exquisite pavilions, and lotus flowers in full bloom. On display are world-renowned inscriptions taken from their original locations on cliffs and moved to the showroom. They are often thought of as calligraphic treasures of the country. Furthermore, the contents of the inscriptions provide us with precious information to fill in omissions in historical records about the Li script of the Han dynasty and to correct false rumors. These stone engravings are important enough to have attained Class A heritage status in China, in particular the Plank Road Built by Gentleman Zhe and Ode to Stone Gate engraved in Eastern Han Dynasty.
